Rainbow Collages

Kindergartners read a book about Rainbows and how they work.  We talked about the different colors that make up a rainbow.  We then used cut paper to create our own rainbows!  We practiced basic skills such as cutting and gluing.

Raccoons

These raccoons are the cutest things!  We read a very cute book about Raccoons and shared different facts the kindergartners knew about Raccoons.  Then using permanent marker, the students drew raccoons and pasted them in a forest.

Lorax

In celebration of the late Dr. Seuss, Kindergartners watched a portion of the new Lorax movie and created their very own cut paper Lorax!

Case of the Stripes

Kindergartners read the very cute book, “A Case of the Stripes” and then created a self portrait of themselves with stripes!  They used permanent markers for the self portrait and then layered strips of tissue paper of them!

Love Monsters

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, Kindergartners made their own love monsters!  We focused on how to cut a symmetrical heart, and used those cut pieces to assemble a love monster.

Monkeys

Mrs. Runyan’s class drew some AWESOME monkeys!  We read a silly book about monkeys and shared facts that we knew. I mean, how cute are these?

Color Wheel Birds

Kindergartners participated in a few games which involved identifying colors and categorizing them into warm/cool and primary/secondary.  They also watched this great video made by Ok Go  They then practiced mixing primary colors to create the secondary colors!  It was a great color theory exercise!

Decorative Names

Kindergartners read the book “The Disappearing Alphabet” which talks about the madness there would be if different letters of the alphabet went missing.  They looked at the picture book “The Graphic Alphabet” which contained examples of letters made using various items. The kindergartners then had to write their name and then decorate it using various lines and patterns with markers

Penguins!

Kindergartners read this funny book about penguins who find a camera in their cage at the zoo.  It follows on them through their journey with the camera and finding it’s owner.  Kindergartners then made penguins using cut paper and then a pipe cleaner for ear muffs!  These are a cute winter favorite every year!

Wild Things

After reading the classic book “Where the Wild Things Are” kindergartners created their own wild things.  We brainstormed different characteristics a wild thing might have on the board and then they went to town creating these very unique, wild things!
