Woven Hearts

As a supplemental lessons, some third graders completed these woven hearts in their spare time.  They used warm colored oil pastels to draw a heart on warm paper then had to choose the compliment of that and draw a cool colored heart using oil pastels.  They then cut slits in one piece and cut the other into strips.  They finished it off by weaving the strips to make a single heart composition! A little complicated with a lot of success!

Owl Will Always Love You

Going along with the Valentine spirit, first graders make owls using cut paper and symmetrical hearts!  These turned out so cute!  Very festive!

Jim Dine Heart Quads

Second graders learned about artist Jim Dine and viewed different examples of his work.  They were then inspired by his use of hearts in his work and paid hommage to him in this lesson!

Love Monsters

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, Kindergartners made their own love monsters!  We focused on how to cut a symmetrical heart, and used those cut pieces to assemble a love monster.
