Rainbow Collages

Kindergartners read a book about Rainbows and how they work.  We talked about the different colors that make up a rainbow.  We then used cut paper to create our own rainbows!  We practiced basic skills such as cutting and gluing.

Abstract Line Design

First graders read the book “Matthew’s Dream” and we discussed vocabulary words such as abstract, line, design and pattern.  Students were to draw a squiggle and then fill in each section with different lines and patterns using markers.

Shape Owls

Kindergartners read the book The Little Owl and then reviewed what we knew about Owls.  Students helped brainstorm shapes on the board.  Using cut paper kindergartners created their very own owls.

Kingly Kanines

Kindergarten’s viewed various images of dogs and brainstormed characteristics.  We then looked at portraits featuring kings and queens and brainstormed characteristics. Then we  created our own kingly kanines using black marker and crayon!

Watercolor Jellyfish

Kindergartners helped make a list of facts they knew about Jellyfish.  We then watched a short clip that taught us more about them.  We learned how they drift throughout the seas.  The students were then exposed to watercolor paints and proper use of them.  We made jellyfish by experimenting with the watercolors.  The kids made a puddle with the paint and then tapped there paper upright on the table to get the drips.  They then learned how to create bubbles by “flicking” their paintbrush!
