Underwater watercolors

First graders read the classic book, “Rainbow Fish” and focused on the beautiful, watercolor illustrations.  Then using a white crayon students drew an underwater scene.  They then filled in the page using cool watercolors!

Underwater Creatures

Second graders watched this awesome Reading Rainbow about the coral reefs and they used the underwater animals they saw as their inspiration.  They used oil pastel and watercolor.  They could use a little or as much of each as they wanted.  These all turned out so great!

Fraction Fish

Third graders reviewed their fractions of a circle (1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 and 1/32) They then used these various fraction pieces to create an underwater scene.   These compositions were made up entirely of cut paper! I love the creativity and diversity!
